IN SPORT: Iyiazi gets 12th medal for Team Nigeria in Paralympics

Veteran Paralympic athlete, Eucharia Iyiazi on Thursday increased Team Nigeria’s medal tally to 12 at the ongoing 2016 Rio Paralympics after clinching bronze in the women’s F56/57 discus.

The 4-time medalist threw a distance of 27.54m in her sixth attempt to win the medal.

Her first three attempt placed her at 7th position, with a season’s best of 22.07m.Iyazi improved in the last three attempts, recording a distance of 27.54m.

Iyiazi won silver at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. She also won two gold medals in the F57/58 discus and shot put events at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics. She won a bronze medalat the London 2012 Games.

Team Nigeria are now 10th on the medal table – surpassing previous performances at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympic games.
